Well here we go, the first Hairy Bar Snacks review, I hope it was worth it.

The first thing we notice about this pack of scratchings is the bag. Not the usual affair but a large clear plastic bag (12 by 14 inches!) sealed with loads of Sellotape. This definitely is a small business, and lets hope the scratchings taste accordingly. Once past the sellotape I find that there is another bag of equal size inside, this I like, it's a reassuring pleasure to know that the contents has every change of being ultra fresh, however god only knows what I'd do if I'd had too many glasses of pop at my local!

Anyway, we're in and they smell good which is a good sign. They look good, random shapes and sizes, no chance of automation here. The first one I try seems not as salty as I'm used to which is a bit surprising, but let us wait and see what happens next. I am also worried about the size of the pack (125 grammes) it seems like this pack could be divided to make 3 or 4 smaller packs quite comfortably. The crunch quotient is perfect, even the hardest are crunchable. Not too hard to break your teeth, not too soft to feel like a 'limp skip'. The level of fat to skin is also generally excellent. Sometimes I find that too much fat makes the scratchings towards the end of the pack taste rather sickly, not enough and you'll need a pint of beer per pack just to swallow them.

Within no time at all, I am at the bottom of my bag, and not for one moment did I feel that I'd never get here. A standard small bag of scratchings is usually enough, but a large bag too much. My weakness for pork scratchings (and the fact I'm in the pub and a bit merry) generally means that I will eat a whole pack regardless of size. Usually with large bags the first scratching is perfect but by the end I just can't finish them due to the amount of salt. My early salt worries with the pack I'm reviewing were unfounded and completely wrong. Less salt is better, and better for you, but you can eat more and for longer, which may not be too good for me in the long run.

In conclusion, I like these a lot, generally perfect, unlike me!

Thanks for the free sample and accompanying letter.
